真夏の九州 Mid Summer in Kyusu１－長崎鈍行日帰り旅 One-day Trip to Nagasaki with a Local Train

   今日は姪っ子や義理の兄と一緒に、青春１８切符を使って長崎日帰り旅行に出かけます。車でも、特急でも1時間半くらいでいける距離ですが、青春18切符に許されているのは、普通電車のみです。まずは、佐賀駅へ。佐賀県は恵比寿様の数が日本一多いとの事、駅のホームにもいらっしゃいます。

Today we have one-day trip to Nagasaki with our nieces and a brother in-law using Seishun (spring-time) 18 tickets. It only takes around one and half hours when we use a car or express train to Nagasaki. However Seihun 18 tickets allow us to use only local trains. We start from Saga station. Saga Prefecture has the largest number of Ebisu-sama (one of the Seven Lucky Gods) in Japan. We can see him on the platform.

15分くらいで終点の肥前山口駅へ。そこから乗り換えて、佐世保方面へ向います。この時間、佐賀から長崎まで直通で普通電車はないため、3本の電車を乗り継いで、早岐（佐世保方面）周りで、長崎へ入ります。旅のお供には飲み物は欠かせません。

After 15 minute ride to Hizen Yamaguchi, we change trains and head for Sasebo. As there is no train directly connects Saga and Nagasaki in this time zone, we change trains 2 times which runs a long way round through Sasebo to Nagasaki. Drinks are essential for a local train trip.

長崎駅からは、市電に乗ります。運転席もレトロです。

Inside NagasakiCity,trams are convenient. The driving sheet is very old-fashioned.

お昼は、2月にも行った吉宗（よっそう）を再訪。くじらの刺身・鱧の湯引きに、一人前（＝茶碗蒸しと蒸寿司のセット）などを楽しみます。東京の吉宗にはチャンポンもあるので、こちらにもあると思っていましたが、残念ながらなし。子供たちには悪いことをしました。

For lunch, we visit Yosso where we had visited in February also, and enjoy Kujira (sashimi of whale), Hamo (see eel) and Ichinin-mae (means one person meal consists of Chawan-mushi (steamed egg custard) and Mushi-suhi (steamed sushi)). It was my miss-understanding that there was also Champon (Chinese noodle arranged in Nagasaki) in Yosso Nagasaki like in Yosso Tokyo. As nieces like Champon very much, they see me a little regretfully.

眼鏡橋・興福寺・宗福寺とお決まりのコース。

Megane-bashi (eye-glasses-bridge), Kohuku Temple and Sohuku Temple are very popular spots in Nagasaki.

近くには、料亭や芸者の検板もあって、花街のにおいが感じられます。

We can find Ryotei (old Japanese style restaurants) and Kenban (administration office of Geisha), which reminds us the atmosphere of night-life in Nagasaki in Edo period.

おばちゃんが屋台で売っているチリンチリン・アイスでのどの渇きを癒します。

Famous Chirin Chirin Ices are sold at standing shop on the street by Oba-chan (middle aged woman).

歩きつかれたので、九州最初の喫茶店「ツル茶ン」へ。ここは長崎ミルクセーキ発祥の地として有名です。長崎のミルクセーキは、凍っています。

We go to Tsuru-chan, the first coffee shop in Kyushu, and take a break. Tsuru-chan is also famous as the birth place of Nagasaki Milk Shake, crushed ices with milk and egg.

僕以外は、みなこれをオーダー。しかし・・ツル茶ンにはもうひとつ有名なものがあります。これも長崎名物トルコライスです。お腹はあまりすいていませんが、ついついこちらをオーダーすることにしました。いくつか種類がありますが、やはりオーソドックスな、カレー＋トンカツ＋ナポリタンに。結構なヴォリュームです。

Every one takes Nagasaki Milk Shakes except for me. As I notice that there is another famous food in Tsuru-chan, which is Turkey Rice – curry source, Naporitan (spaghetti with tomato ketchup), fried pork cutlet and rice are put on one plate all together, Itake it although having a big lunch at Yosso before. We do not know why we call this dish Turkey Rice. Nagasaki is only the place where we can see this mixed-up dish.

帰りは、一本でまっすぐ佐賀駅までいける電車があったので、飛び乗りです。こちらの路線からは、雲仙岳も見えています。

We rush into the direct train to Saga station this time. Unzen-dake shows up in this line.

途中の駅では2本の電車を待ち合わせて、20分ほど停車。

The train stops at a station for around 20 minutes waiting two trains pass it.

だんだんと日も暮れてきました。もうすぐ到着です。

Seeing sun-set, we are about to back to Saga station.

真夏の九州 Mid Summer in Kyusyu２－旧三井倶楽部 Old Mitsui Club

福岡県南部、熊本県との県境にある大牟田はかつて三井三池炭鉱のあった土地です。石炭の運搬港であった三池港の開港と同時にできたのが、三井倶楽部です。今は炭鉱もなくなり、街はすっかり活気をなくしていますが、三井倶楽部の建物はいまも残っています。今回はちょっとお昼に出かけました。

Omuta City is located near to the southern prefecture border of Fukuoka Prefecture and was prosperous with a big coal mine - Mitsui Miike Coal Mine. When the Miike Port was opened for the logistics of coals a century ago, Mitsui Club was also launched to have entertainment. The building of Mitsui Club is still used for a restaurant and we visited there for lunch.

場所が良くわからなくて、電話で確認していている途中、突然洋館が目に飛び込んできました。これが、旧三井倶楽部です。今は港倶楽部といっているようです。

As it is the first time to visit there, we have lost and are having a telephone call to confirm its location. Suddenly the old western-style building comes into our attention! This is where we are looking for, Mitsui Club, which has changed its name to Minato Club (Port Club) these days.

建物のすぐ近くにはかつての坑道の入り口が残っています。

There still remains old entrance of the coral mining roadway.

お昼のコースをお願いします。前菜は、白身魚のムース・いわしのエスカベッシュにモズクをアレンジしたものです。

We take lunch coerces. For hors d'oeuvres - mousse of white fish, deep fried sardine marinade with sweet source and mozuku (Japanese see weed) arranged for western-style.

メインは牛肉ですが、連れは牛が苦手なのでイノブタに変更してもらいました。

For mains, grilled beef for me and grilled wild-pork for my partner.

デザートとコーヒーでお腹いっぱいになりました。

We have become full with a dessert and coffee.

食後は、館内をちょっと見て廻ることにします。

We walk around inside the building for good digest.

夏の入道雲のもと、まっすぐな道を通って戻りました。

After a while, we back on the long straight road under summer touring clouds.
